Reading activity
L.O: To develop lengthier answers to questions
At secondary school, you are expected to read quite lengthy pieces of text as well as answer questions about them. Therefore, in Y6, we concentrate so much on 3-mark questions because it gives you a head start to English at secondary school.
1) Open the PowerPoint named: Somewhere in the past. If you do not have PowerPoint, there is also a separate sheet named: Answers to 3-mark question. This word document has the text and question on it but be careful, it also has the answers on it. Do not look at the answers until you have completed the task.
2) Read through pages 2-4. On page 4, there is a question for you to answer. Have a go at answering the 3 mark question on a piece of paper.
3) Once you have had a go at answering the question, look through pages 5-8. This will help you to see if you answered using the correct information and whether you wrote enough for your answer.
Keep this work in the ‘Reading’ section of your folder.
SPaG activity
L.O: To distinguish between words ending in ‘sure’ and ‘ture’
1) Open the file named: Word Scramble Puzzle
2) Complete the puzzle and the extra task at the bottom of the page
Keep this work in the ‘SPaG’ section of your folder.
3) Check you answers with the file named: Answers for Word Scramble Puzzle
Wider Curriculum – Art – Bridget Riley 2 – from Miss Taylor
L.O: to develop a range of optical illusion art ideas
Watch this video from the Hayward Gallery to see a wide range of Bridget Riley’s work from her recent exhibition. You might want to pause on some of the pieces to see how they ‘move’ when you look at them.
https://www.southbankcentre.co.uk/blog/bridget-riley-returns-hayward-gallery
Here are two examples of Op Art to have a go at. Both incorporate ideas about using lines to create optical illusion.
This one is the easier of the two but less Bridget Riley-ish. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMgLiU-hWUo
This one is more of a challenge as it more closely represents Riley’s work and she is, after all, a world class artist! There is quite a lot to it but it is well worth the effort! You’ll need a sharp pencil, a ruler, a pair of scissors and some paper or card. NOTE the excellent scissor technique in the middle! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaNy0eJxGtg
Happy drawing!
