Y6 Wider Curriculum – P.S.H.E – Monday 8.02.21

Charlie Mackesy ‘The Boy, the mole, the fox and the horse’ book study.

The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse are four friends who share a deep, unshakable bond. Through a series of brief but important conversations, Charlie Mackesy teases universal truths and rich wisdom from the mouths of his characters, celebrating warmth and empathy. Exploring kindness through exquisite, sensitive artwork and delicate calligraphy, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse is a moving study of friendship, kindness and the world.

  1. If you have not read the book before (or even if you have and you want to experience it again), follow the link below to listen and watch the book being read to you.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81b4i9jQhck&t=297s

  1. Work through the questions on the PDF document (3.2.21 PSHE The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse) which link to certain pages of the book. We have provided an answer sheet for you to write your answers on too (3.2.21 PSHE Answer Sheet).
  2. Time to get creative!

We are going to have a go at creating our own piece of art work through the inspiration of Charlie Mackesy.

• Firstly, you must have a think about a positive message/saying that means a lot to you.

• Next, write it down as beautifully as you can (use the book for inspiration).

• After that you will have a go at drawing an image to go with it. BUT you must include the characters from the book.

The characters are:

• The boy

• The mole

• The fox

• The horse

You can use page 6 of the PDF document as inspiration for your own piece of artwork inspired by the book ‘The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse.’

Y6 Wider Curriculum – RE– Thursday 11.02.21

Lesson 2

L/O To explore places that believers use in weekly worship

We are going to focus upon Christianity, Islam and Hinduism because they are the most followed religions in our city.

Look at the images of a Hindu Temple, Christian Church and Islamic Mosque in the RE Lesson 2 File. What are the similarities and differences of the physical buildings?

Let’s look more at the purposes of each building from watching these videos. Draw a table to take notes of what you learn about the building and the purpose of it. There is an example table in the RE Lesson 2 file, but you don’t have to print it, you can just draw it in your book..

Hindu Temple

Finally, collate your ideas in a Venn diagram – you may want to print out from the RE Lesson 2 file, or just draw you own over a double page in you book. Transfer as many of your notes into the Venn diagram. Which purposes are specific to only one of the places of worship? Which apply to two places of worship, or perhaps all three?

Y6 Wider Curriculum – RE– Friday 12.02.21

Lesson 3

L/O List and describe similarities and differences between the ways different communities show that they belong

Can you think of a time when you were somewhere new, when you didn’t know anyone? Perhaps starting a new school, or a new club. How did it feel? What was done to welcome you?

All religions have different ways of welcoming babies into their community. Why do you think religions celebrate and welcome babies into their communities?

Why is a welcome important to the child?

Why is a welcoming the child important to everyone else in the community?

Watch these two video about a Hindu welcome for a child and a Christian welcome for a child, then read the information (in the RE Lesson 3 file) about Muslim, Hindu and Christian welcoming ceremonies.

Hindu: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02npp3n

Christian: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02mwy4d

On the final page of the RE Lesson 3 file are a series of sentences. Can you cut and stick, or sort and write them in your book to match them to the different religions. For some of you, you can extend your sentences and explain why these different ceremonies take place.
