Y6 Wider Curriculum – Music

Week beginning 01.02.21

Task 1

LO: To create a graphic score

Time for a bit of Doctor Who!  Delia Derbyshire, swapped traditional musical instruments for electronic sounds, changed the sound of orchestral music forever!

Watch and read: https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/ten-pieces/classical-music-delia-derbyshire-doctor-who-theme/zfh792p

Now to create a graphic score:

  • Take a piece of paper (A3 is better) and place it landscape.
  • Choose 2 colours; one to represent the bass line and another for the melody.
  • Listen to the full orchestra performance again and see if you can identify the pounding bass line; draw this bass line running across the bottom of your page.  Don’t just draw a line though!  Listen and mark the shapes that represent the shape of the music.
  • Listen to the performance again and draw the famous, swooping melody.  This can cover the top half of the page, again running from left to right.
  • Now look at your final result.  This is an example of a graphic score – music which doesn’t have to be written out using notation (line and dots).
  • Take a picture of your graphic score and put it on Class Dojo.

Now listen to a different version: https://youtu.be/2CYDgezeQas

Which one do you prefer and why?

PS When we are back together I can’t wait to see how you are getting on with signing to “You’ve got a friend in me!” https://youtu.be/CSQ8-TAA3xI

Task 2

Go onto Chrome Music Lab, Song-Maker section:

https://musiclab.chromeexperiments.com/Song-Maker/

You can change the instruments (bottom left) and tempo (speed) – have a play!  Can you create a piece that could be in a Doctor Who programme?

Y6 French

WB 01.02.2021

Our focus this week is going to be the French words for common drinks that you have at home. Look through the powerpoint and have a go at the role play activity at the end. Maybe you could get a sibling or parent to play with you. After you have had a go with the vocabulary, you will need to complete the French Food Calculations worksheet.

I also want you to go onto the Linguascope website and do some of the activities to review what we have been learning this year.

There is also a video to watch that introduces drinks.

Lesson 1 - RE

L/O To consider the value of community and the religions within our locality and Britain today

We’re beginning today by thinking about communities – groups of people who gather together for a common purpose. How many communities can you think of? Either list them, or take part in a rally robin with a family member. Here’s a few to start you off – family, school, football club, choir, Brownies, Cubs, running club….

  • Draw a spider diagram with the word ME in the middle. List all the different communities that you belong to.
  • For a community to be strong and continue to exist, each person who is part of it needs to contributes to and receive from the community. For each community that you are part of, list the things that you give to the community, and the things you receive from the community.

Here’s an example:

Family

I received love, encouragement (with my learning), friendship (from. My brother).

I give love, time (when I do the washing up), kindness (when I make mum and dad a cup of tea)

We are going to consider different religions in our local area. To help understand which religions are followed in Sheffield and the wider world, we are going to create a pie chart of both Sheffield and World religions.

The RE lesson 1 file has two circles with guides to help you create the two pie charts from the information given.

Compare the two – What differences do you see? What similarities do you see? Why?

Lesson 1 - PSHE

L/O To consider the value of community and the religions within our locality and Britain today.

  • Watch the two video clips on YouTube and answer the questions.
  • Create names and logos that would not be allowed because they're too similar to another restaurant's copyright.
  • Create 6 possible names and logos for your restaurant in your book that would be rejected for infringing copyright (perhaps Pizza House or Burger Queen).
  • Create a unique name and logo for your new restaurant.
  • Pick the colours for your logo to match the emotions you want to create and then check your logo with every other logo to ensure that your logo isn’t too similar to another logo!

Lesson 1 - PE - 02.02.21

  • Create your own running track in a safe environment within your home or garden.
  • Read through and attempt the different running challenge.

Lesson 2 - PE - 04.02.21

  • Look at the handball 'Play your cards right' challenge.
  • Set up the challenge in a safe and clear space within your home or garden.
