Monday 18.01.21
Aim: Consider the differences between formal and informal language, and identify examples of both in writing.
- Today you will read some famous author profiles. We are sure you will have read books by at least one of the authors (even if it was when you were younger).
- Then, revise how language can be formal and informal using the PowerPoint to help you (attached) or the link to a video below. Were the author profiles formal or informal?
- Finally, can you write an informal ‘About Me’ profile?
Tuesday 19.01.21
Aim: Revisit subjunctive, practise identifying and using in extended writing.
- You will start the week off by learning all about the subjunctive form. There is a PowerPoint attached with audio, this will help you to be independent in your learning.
- Can you identify the subjunctive form in the president application information? Have a go at writing a president application, don’t forget the subjunctive form.
- Just for fun – Watch the video on the subjunctive form in songs. Which celebrities use the subjunctive form correctly? Listen carefully for those who say ‘If I was’ (perhaps they need to go back and learn the subjunctive form).

Wednesday 20.01.21
Aim: Read a poem, learn by heart and write additional verses.
- The subjunctive form can even appear in poetry. Read the poem carefully, can you identify the subjunctive form?
- Can you add some extra verses to the poem using the subjunctive form? You should be an expert by now.
Thursday 21.01.21
Aim: Read two poems, answer questions and write a recommendation.
- You will read two poems today which both come from a very popular fairy tale.
- Which do you prefer? Which would you recommend to a friend?
Friday 22.01.21
Aim: Identifying clauses, phrases, co-ordinating and subordinating conjunctions.
- Today you will read another blog post but this time it is about Lizzie Greenwood and her adventures in Antarctica.
- After, you will revise your knowledge on clauses and conjunctions. There is a PowerPoint (attached) and video link to help you.
Parents - You may find it easier to print all the pages (so you have it all together) but if you want to save on printing, each day references the pages which require printing.
