Y4 Home Learning Wednesday 6th May

Date: 4th May 2020 @ 6:15pm

Hello to all the Y4s from Mrs Waggott and Mrs Lowe,

We hope you are all keeping well and not missing school too much!

It was so lovely to talk to some of you this week and see that you are all ok.

Your work for today has some Maths, English and some PSHE.

Maths

Maths is all about lines of symmetry in 2D shapes.

First of all do the power point quiz to revise your knowledge on 2D shapes.

Then, watch this short clip:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zrhp34j/articles/z8t72p3

and this one:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/maths-ks2-finding-lines-of-symmetry/zktfgwx

LO: To identify lines of symmetry.

(Symmetry is where a line shows an identical reflected image on each side.)

You have a few choices today; some different worksheets on symmetry to choose between.

If you are not very confident with this, start off with the ‘Line of Symmetry’ sheet.

Use a small mirror (only if you have one, it’s not essential) along the middle line and write ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ if it has or hasn’t got a line of symmetry.

If you find this ok, you can try the ‘Cut and Fold 2D shapes’ sheet.  How many lines of symmetry can you find on these shapes?

If you are really confident with lines of symmetry, start with the ‘Symmetry in Nature’ sheets.  There are some interesting drawings to choose at the end.

EVERYBODY - See if you can draw your own 2D shape with a line of symmetry.

What objects in your house have got lines of symmetry?

English

L.O. To read a text and answer questions on it

You have two tasks to do for reading, and one other activity which is from First News and is a range of different puzzles and compeitions for you to choose from.

  1. Open the ‘Reading Activity 1’ sheet. Read the article and then have a go at the crossword puzzle below it. All the words that you need have been underlined in the text to help you. Either print out the sheet, or write your answers on a piece of paper. (Check your answers at the end by looking at the answers sheet).

  1. Open the ‘Reading Activity 2’ sheet. There is an article to read and some comprehnsion questions to answer. Again, check your answers afterwards.

  1. If you want some more challenges, then the ‘Extra Activities’ sheets are for you! There’s a photo challenge, some excellent websites to visit, a few competitions and a quiz!

PSHE

L.O. To creat a Covid-19 Time Capsule

We are living through very different times at the moment, which none of us have seen before and are very unlikely to see again! We think it is important to reflect on how we are feeling right now, and make a record of the activities we have been doing and the feelings we have been experiencing – so that we don’t forget, and also so that we can continue to do the good bits of lockdown once it is all over.

There are a series of sheets attached called ‘2020 Covid-19 time capsule’. We’d like you to do some of these sheets today and some on Friday. There are ten pages overall. You might choose to do all of them, or just some of them. There’s also other suggestions of what you might want to include. When you’ve finished, you will have made a time capsule that you can keep and look back on when this is all over. If you want to email us with any of the tasks you complete, we’d love to see them!
