L.O. To learn about logos and word play

  1. Logo quiz – how many logos do you recognise?
  2. Think about why companies use logos. Do you think you would be more likely to buy something from a company with a famous logo? Why?
  3. Now think about slogans. Can you remember any slogans from famous companies? McDonalds-“I’m lovin’ it”, KitKat-“Take a break”  The definition of a slogan is the catchy words that companies use to help customers recognise the brand.
  4. Kit Kat’s slogan, ‘Take a break’ is a play on words because it means two things. It means sit down and have a break but also when you snap the chocolate into pieces you are breaking it – that’s what a play on words means!
  5. Your task today is to design your own logo and slogan for Mr Botte’s shoe shop – you can just do one, or maybe you want to think of several different ones?
  6. Challenge – can you transfer your designs onto a computer and digitally produce your images?

L.O. To create a persuasive advert

Today you are going to create an advertisement for one of the pairs of shoes in the film, using the persuasive language skills you have learnt to attract customers and convince them to purchase the items.

  1. Watch the film again and make sure you are really familiar with the shoes that Mr Botte sells.
  2. Choose one pair of shoes that you would like to create an advert for.
  3. Use the template to draw a picture of the shoes and then using logos, word play, rhetorical questions and emotive language, design and write your advertisement. Use the WAGOLL to help you.

L.O. To practise ‘challenge’ spellings

Today’s spellings do not follow a rule! Instead they are all words that you might find tricky to spell because they have silent letters, or unusual patterns.

  1. Complete the two sheets on Spelling Activity 1. The first one is copying the spellings in your neatest handwriting using the ‘Look, say, Cover, Write, Check’ method. The second sheet is a crossword.
  2. Choose some of the spellings and create either a poem or a poster which will help you to remember the correct spellings. Look at the WAGOLL for ideas!
