Y3 RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch
Date: 22nd Jan 2019 @ 3:32pm
This lunchtime Mrs Scammell and a group of Y3 children took part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch to document what birds could be seen in the DJS playground.
Almost straightaway we were treated to a delightful song from a friendly robin.
The children talked about the birds they had seen before and predicted what they might see today. We discussed how birds might look different in size, wing colour, beak colour and feet colour. We also discussed the different sounds birds make and tried to identify birds in the trees from their songs.
We used our identification grids to spot: robins, blackbirds, magpies, blue tits, pigeons, song thrushes, jackdaws and pied wagtail. We also think we saw a mistle thrush and a flock of redwings on the school field!
The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch takes place this weekend and anyone can do it!
