English – Assessment Week
22.03.21 – Grammar and Punctuation (SPAG test)
You’ll need to find a quiet place to work and you will need a pencil and ruler. Read the instructions and have a go at the practise questions. This paper is all about how much you’ve learnt in our SPaG lessons. Some questions might ask you to circle one, another question might ask you to tick 3 so read the instructions carefully. You will have 40 minutes to complete the paper. If you are stuck, just leave it and come back to it later. A grown-up can read the question to you but they can’t give you any clues –sorry. Once you’ve finished, return it to your teacher, who will mark it.
23.03.21 – Spelling
You’re going to need an adult to help today. Make sure you’re sitting somewhere comfortable and have a pencil and rubber. Find the spelling paper. The adult will say the word, then they’ll say the sentence and then they will say the word. If you need the sentence repeating they can do that for you, just ask. Once you’ve finished, mark your answers and make sure you show your teacher when you get back.
If you haven’t got an adult who can help with this, practise writing out the spellings yourself. Try doing it like this:
- Look at the spelling
- Say it out loud
- Cover it up
- Write the spelling
- Check it
24.03.21 – Reading
You’re going to complete the reading paper in two parts. Again, make sure you’re in a comfortable place and you have a pencil, rubber and ruler. You’ll need a copy of the text which is labelled Spring 4 and a copy of the answer booklet which is labelled Reading. Turn to the first page and read the instructions and have a go at the practise questions. Today you will read the first two texts: In the Moonlight and Special Sculptures. You have 45 minutes to complete the test. Unfortunately, because this is a reading test you’re going to have to try really hard to do this independently.
25.03.21 – Reading
Today you’re going to finish off and complete the final text: The First Storm. Today you only have 30 minutes to answer the questions. Just like yesterday, you will need to work independently. Once you’ve finished, return it to your teacher who will mark it for you.
26.03.21 – Explanation text
We’ve been learning all about the digestive system in science and this week your class will be writing an explanation piece of writing about what happens. To get your brain working have a go at this task. * if you find reading and writing tricky, ** if you feel confident about reading and writing and *** if you want a challenge.
Now can you write your own? Use the planning grid to first jot down some ideas and notes, try to recall what you learnt in science last week. You’ve got an example in front of you to help too. This task might take longer than 60 minutes but the Maths task is quite short to give you enough time.
How many of these features can you put into your writing?
- Fronted Adverbials
- Conjunctions
- Side Headings
- Technical words
- Commas, full stops, exclamation marks
