LO: To develop descriptive vocabulary
The next few weeks of English is going to be about stories from imaginary worlds. We will be focusing on ‘The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’ by CS Lewis.
- Choose a character (or characters if you want a challenge) you would like to focus on: Lucy, Susan, Edmund, Peter, Mrs Macready, Professor, Mother, Father
- Watch the 3 video clips. As you watch and listen to the story jot down on the activity sheet: adjectives to describe the character, or characters you have chosen. Challenge: Can you provide evidence to support your opinion? E.g. Peter is brave because he ran back into the house.

Today you will be reading a passage from The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and deciding when action is being used and when the senses are being used.
Can you name the five senses? If you’re unsure, here’s a quick recap:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z9yycdm/articles/zxy987h
- Read the text on the activity sheet. Choose two different colours and underline all the parts where action is being described in one colour, and all the parts when the senses are being used in another colour.
- Check your work against the answers provided.
- If you’re looking for a challenge today, can you see any of the other features from this week’s success criteria which is at the top of the sheet?
Wednesday 13.01.21
LO: To write a description
Today you will be writing a description of Lucy’s journey into the wardrobe. This should feature some description using the senses we looked at yesterday and some action.
- Look at activity sheet 1. Can you put some notes in each column to say what the coats felt like and smelt like and how they made Lucy feel? Read the text from yesterday to help you if you need to.
- Write a description of Lucy’s journey through the wardrobe. Remember to include action and senses. Use the WAGOLL to help you. If you can, write on a piece of paper. If you need help, use the ‘Support for Writing’ sheet and put your description on there.
- Read chapter 2 – you may want to split this up over a few days as it is quite long.
Thursday 14.01.21

Today you will be revising what an expanded noun phrase is and then practising writing some expanded noun phrases.
