Y3 Home learning 4/5

Date: 3rd May 2020 @ 8:22pm

Hello Y3

I hope you've all had a nice weekend. What have you been up to?

I've finally managed to set myself a proper working area in my house, so now my laptop is set up properly. I have a nice view of the garden, a plan and lots of cards and letters that my friends have sent me during lockdown. Where do you like to do your homelearning? Bella chooses either the kitchen table or the desk in her room if she needs somewhere very quiet away from Tilly!

Homelearning this week:

ENGLISH

Focus: SPaG

L.O: To identify and use subordinating conjunctions

Today, you are going to revise subordinating conjunctions. Over the year, you have been using subordinating conjunctions in your writing to extend your sentences. A PowerPoint presentation has been attached for you to work through and a poster (it may be good to print this out – if possible and display it). Once you have read through the PowerPoint please complete the jigsaw challenges. There is a challenge for you in there too!

There is a video link here from BBC bitesize which also explains what a subordinate conjunction is: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zwwp8mn/articles/zqk37p3

Parents (For your information)

A conjunction is a word, or words, used to connect two clauses together. Words such as: 'although', 'because' or 'when' .

A subordinating clause is a part of a sentence that adds additional information to the main clause. A subordinating conjunction is simply the word/words that is used to join a subordinating clause to another clause or sentence.

"He was annoyed, the train had stopped."

"He was annoyed because the train had stopped."

By adding 'because' we are linking the subordinating clause "the train had stopped" with the main clause "He was annoyed".
