Sports Leaders at Dobcroft Junior School provide some fantastic opportunities for children to learn and participate in games. Once a week, our Junior Sports Leaders run a lunchtime club aimed at providing children a safe and fun area to play while also learning a new sport. One of the most popular lunch time activities has been dodgeball that a lot of our Y3s and 4s have participated in.
Our Junior School Leaders have been running ball games and skipping based games with the children in the Infant school yard as well as teaching them new games and skills. They are very good at encouraging children to participate in the activities and give them clear and structured rules to follow. Children have reported that they enjoying doing the activities with the older children and like learning new skills.
Every Friday morning, our Sports Leaders run a Change4Life club before school. Having been trained by David Milns in the first autumn half term, the leaders were keen to continue running this club after he had left. Thanks to our fantastic Teaching Assistants, who have come into school early to supervise the children, our Sports Leaders have run the Change4Life club independently, aiming at children who do not participate in any extra-curricular sports clubs.
They children also help run the whole school run which occurs twice a week, collecting the results and announcing the winners at the end of the week during assembly.
