Having fun in Castleton!

Date: 23rd Apr 2019 @ 9:15pm

Wowzers, what a day! Year 3 have been having the most incredible time on their very first residential! Here is a little snippet of what we have been up to! (Bear with us with photos - they are on many different iPads so we will add more later!). After a normal start to the school day Y3 hopped onto the coach for our journey to Castleton. The sun was shining and there was so much excitement in the air.

When end we arrived, we took the short walk from the village to the centre and had chance to explore our surroundings after being split into our groups - it was really nice to be mixed and spend time with different children from all across the year group. Throughout the day we were able to do so many different activities starting with a tour of our home for the night - who knew the grounds were so big?! After that we tried our hand at lots of things:

- Orienteering. Using our fantastic maps skills we had to orientate ourselves and find places in the grounds using photo clues and map reading. It was tricky at first but we managed to get the hang of it.

- Scavenger Hunt. We were sent on a mission by our group leaders to find a list of items from a list (a lot of which was open to interpretation!) and had to work in teams to find it all. Then we used it to make some really cool nature based artwork - fab!

- Clay faces. Using natural clay and the things we could find around us, we made an array of crazy and creative faces - from Stone Age girls to teethy grins, they look incredible!

- Shelter making. Using only natural materials, we had to make a shelter fit for a bug (or anyone for that matter!). With sticks, odd, leaves and more some of us made shelters that would keep out the worst weather and others made ones that us teachers would rather not have stayed in (we quite like roofs keeping us dry!

- Adventure course. Wow - there were so many things to enjoy and do on this adventure course and really was something for everyone! We squeezed through tyres, scaled A-frames, zoomed on zip wires, wobbled on wood, swooped on swings and commando crawled through tunnels and had to work really hard in our teams to make sure everybody made it through and it challenged us all!

Even still the most exciting part of the day for many children was finding our dorms (and most likely the most challenging part of putting sheets on duvets!) and learning who we were spending our exciting sleepover with! Let's just see whether we will get much rest with all of the excitement!

Throughout all of today we showed real resilience, determination and co-operation to get through and really proved the Y3 motto that teamwork makes the dreamwork!

Now we have very tired children (and teachers!) settled in their PJs enjoying Mary Poppins Returns before we (attempt!) to get some sleep. More updates tomorrow from us😊
