Curriculum

While the National Curriculum lays out the expectations for Key Stage 2, as a school we arrange the objectives for learning into different Year Groups. This can be found in our Curriculum Overviews.

These are designed to help children make links between topics, build upon learning in previous year groups and allow teachers to explore English and Maths objectives within a topic-based lesson.Lessons are designed to be exciting and engaging and will be taught in a variety of different ways: through book based task, through drama, through practical tasks, through cooking… the list goes on!

Many topics will be further enhanced through trips out and visitors bringing their specialist knowledge to the classroom. We have seen Planetariums in the hall, Romans on the playground and Pete McKee demonstrating his artwork. We’ve visited giraffes at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, travelled in time to the Victorian Classroom and marvelled at Paris from the top of the Eiffel Tower!

The curriculum is enhanced by special days throughout the year. We often celebrate World Book Day, making the most of this time to celebrate reading and STEM week. We also react to current events – for example celebrating Royal Weddings and conducting Elections.

Please use the links in this section to access year group curriculum guides as well as a term by term overview of the curriculum taught in each year group. If you require any more details regarding our curriculum please do not hesitate to get in touch with your child's class teacher or the head teacher.
