Year 5 Maths Week Beginning 15th June

Date: 12th Jun 2020 @ 3:45pm

Hello my lovelies - what horrible weather! Did we look at the Great Big Hen song in Y3 maths? I can't remember. It is perhaps one of my favourite songs of all time (hmm) and I've attached the videos for you as you will need it for your maths for this week. Feel free to send me any videos of you singing or dancing along to it - maybe even an animation might work?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17czq9_xd_o (recapping dividing by 10 and 100)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2kqK369lsI This is a funny video to remind you how to x and ÷ by 1000.

Monday

L.O: To convert units of measurement (kilo)

How many grams in 1 kilogram? (1000g = 1kg)

How many metres in 1 kilometre (1000m = 1km)

Have a look at the powerpoint for an introduction. When completing the sheet, if feeling super confident try page 2. If you just want to stick with fluency work, try page 1

Tuesday

L.O: To convert units of measurement (mili)

You need the same skills as yesterday to x and ÷ by 1000 (remember great big hen)

How many millilitre in 1litre ? (1000ml in 1L)

How many millimetre in 1metre? (1000mm in 1m)

Again – if you are confident and want to try problem solving and reasoning, try page 2 of the activity.

Wednesday

L.O: To convert metric units of measurement (length)

You might find it useful having a ruler near you today.

Remember:

 1cm = 10mm

1m = 100cm

1km = 1000m

You need to use your skills to x ÷ by 10, 100 and 1000 (remember great big hen!)

Use the fluency practise sheet (pg 5 & 6) if you want to

Thursday

L.O: To convert imperial units of measurement

Before we had metric units of measurement (the ones you have used this week linking 10, 100, 1000) there were imperial units of measurement. (inches,feet, yards, miles (length)  pounds (weight) pints (capacity)) We sometimes use these for measuring and countries such as USA still use them.

You will need your multiplication skills today – remember your methods

There are lots of questions to complete on the powerpoint. If you want to do more, you could try the activity sheet.

Friday

Mental Arithmetic Test

Remember Miss Field’s advice – show your working out!
