Year 3 Maths week beginning 1st June

Date: 29th May 2020 @ 4:20pm

Monday

L.O: To Compare Angles

Think back to before the holidays.

What is a right angle? Can you make one with your arms or fingers?

How many degrees in a right angle?

A right angle is the same as a _________ turn

2 right angles is the same as  _______ a turn

Today we are going to be thinking about whether an angle is smaller or bigger than a right angle. In Y4 you learn that an angle smaller than a right angle is called acute and bigger than a right angle is called obtuse (between 90 and 180°)

Tuesday

L.O: To draw and measure accurately (you need a ruler today!)

1) Teach your adult how to measure with a ruler. Remind them how to check which side of the ruler they are using and to start on 0mm/cm and not at the end.

2) Using a sharp pencil – draw these lines on a piece of paper:

  • 9cm
  • 3.5cm
  • 12cm 3mm
  • 2cm
  • 8cm 8mm

3) How many cm in 1m?

How many mm in 1cm?

How many mm on your ruler?

4) Have a go at today’s questions – you don’t need to print the sheet today!

Wednesday

L.O: To recognise horizontal and vertical lines

Horizontal = sideways

Vertical = up and down

Diagonal = corner to corner

Explore your house or garden (or go for a walk) who can spot the most horizontal lines and vertical lines? Practise using your arm to reinforce these words

There are some other questions for you to look at on the powerpoint.

Thursday

L.O: To recognise parallel and perpendicular lines

Have a look at the power point for information. You will need your ruler again today. The naughty people don’t seem to use one but we will as we are amazing.

Friday

Mental Maths

The purpose of a mental maths test is for the children to use written methods to solve questions. On this test, children must use written methods for Q 7, 8, 11,12 and maybe 13. The children have covered all of this learning in school before lockdown. I have attached a copy of our written methods for you to refer to ;)

NEXT WEEK IT’LL BE REALLY GOOD IF YOU HAVE SOME PLAYDOH/CLAY/BLUTAC for MATHS. DON’T WORRY IF NOT POSSIBLE!!
