Year 3 English Week Beginning 1st June

Date: 28th May 2020 @ 9:08am

Welcome back Year 3,

We hope you've had a lovely break and are well rested. Below is an outline of the week, as promised it is Harry Potter themed. Don’t worry if you haven’t read the book, everything you need to complete the activities is in resources for each day. By the end of the week, you might like to start reading Harry Potter or even read it again.  You will notice that each day has some fun time extras, these are optional but if you are a Harry Potter fan you might like to try them.

Please open each day for further details of the tasks and resources.

Aim:  Using conjunctions and clauses.

You will start the week off by watching a clip from Harry Potter where the children are sorted into houses using the sorting hat. There is also an extract from the book for you to read too. The aim of today’s lesson is to revise clauses and conjunctions. Watch the video (link below) to help you and read the PowerPoint or revision cards. The PowerPoint has audio with it to help you be independent in your tasks.

Tuesday

Aim: Developing understanding of conjunctions and clauses.

Today you will recap conjunctions (you will be an expert by Year 4!). You might find it useful to watch the video and song again from yesterday. Once you have completed your sentences you will select your favourite and illustrate it.

Wednesday

Aim: Independent writing using conjunctions

Today is the day where you will watch Harry’s first broomstick lesson. When you watch the clip and read the extract, you will notice Harry feels different emotions throughout the lesson. How would you feel in your first Broomstick lesson? Can you write some emotive sentences using a conjunction?

Thursday

Aim: Revising and identifying adverbs.

Who loves the game Quidditch in Harry Potter? Watch the scene and read the extract.  Can you write at least 5 sentences about the Quidditch match where each sentence includes an adverb? There is an audio PowerPoint to help you. You may also like to watch the video below to help you too.

Friday Writing a report using features of reports

Today you get the opportunity to become a teacher and write a school report on a Harry Potter character or a family/friend if you haven’t read much of Harry Potter.  Read carefully the report on Neville Longbottom as an example of how to write your report. It would be great if you emailed your teacher your writing.

We have also attached your spelling lists for June.

We hope you enjoy this week’s English lessons.
