L.O: To understand the feeling of embarrassment

1) Watch this video- it is a story about embarrassment

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AP8qUD-ek4

Task 1- Read through the scenarios called PSHE Task 1 and colour in the embarrassment level that you would feel if you experienced what was going on in the scenario. The circle is quite small, so on page 2 is a bigger version so you can see what each segment says.

Then, number the scenarios from most embarrassing (9) to least embarrassing (1).

Task 2- Create your own storyboard of an embarrassing event using the worksheet names PSHE Task 2. It could be real or fictional (made up).

Y5 Wider Curriculum – Art – Wednesday and Thursday

LO To use a range of colours and textures to create a collage

Visit https://megancoyle.com/learn/middle-school/animals/animal-portrayal/ and research about Megan Coyle’s animal collages and how she makes them.

Once you have researched Megan Coyle’s work, decide on your own animal you would like to do a collage of.

You may want to think about…

  • Colours you will use to represent the animal
  • The setting (habitat) your chosen animal is in, how will you represent that?
  • What will the animal be doing in your collage?

Equipment needed

  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Various materials to build your collage

Once you have decided on your chosen animal and habitat, work your way through the ‘20.01.2021- Art - Make an animal collage’ PDF to create your collage picture.

Once you have finished your collage, you can write a short paragraph explaining all about your chosen animal. Use the ‘21.01.2021 - Art - Write an animal report’ PDF to support you in this.

We are expecting that the piece of art and your written report on your chosen animal will take two days to complete.

Please upload pictures of your finished art pieces to your Class Dojo Portfolio

Complete the workout at least twice in one session.

L.O. Developing core strength

Task 3 - Crabs and Scorpions

Make sure you find a safe space, rest after each turn of 10 and drink regularly.

Have at least 2 turns and see if you can beat your time. If 10 is too many start with 5 and add one each time you have a turn. If you're finding it easy, try to increase the distance!

LO Developing leg strength and power

Task 4 - Long Jump World Record Attempt

Make sure you find a safe space

Think about the role your arms play in increasing your distance. Try to be explosive with each jumping effort.

Keep your feet about hip/shoulder width apart. Land on both feet with control, bend your knees.

Give yourself a new target - how far can you go in 2 jumps? Can you double the distance with 4? Triple with 6 or quadruple with 8?!

Task- Friday

L.O: To sustain vigorous activity for 40 minutes

Find the resource named: 22.1.21- Get set 4 PE.

You will see it has a website link: https://www.getset4pe.co.uk/
and a calendar. For your PE session today, you must fill your calendar in with 45 minutes worth of activities.

Creative games > Get Dancing

Fitness games > Transporter

Fundamental movement skills > Alphabet Scavenger hunt

You will need to:
-Set up and complete your sessions outside where there is more space (if possible).
-Make sure there is enough space for your activity (if you cannot go outside). Be mindful of your belongings around you.
-Get a drink of water to hand

Y5 Wider curriculum – Music (PPA) Tuesday

Task 1

LO: To learn about a composer and perform body percussion

Florence Price overcame prejudice to become the first black female composer to have her work performed by a major orchestra!

Watch and read: https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/ten-pieces/classical-music-florence-price-symphony-no1/z48rscw

In the video, the West African rhythms are re-created as body percussion.  Can you copy them?  Once you have mastered one hand, can you use both hands?!

What other repeating rhythms can you create by patting and slapping your arms, legs and chest?  How about including stamping with your feet?  Have fun!

Task 2

LO: To listen and appraise a piece of music from an American band

Listen - there’s something very special about singing in a choir. Have a listen to these children who are Year 6s from a Primary School in Staten Island, New York.  Don’t Stop Believin’: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68Z6bj3YZJ4&list=PLCADD56F3ED27E59B&index=55

The song was originally performed by the American rock band ‘Journey’ released in the USA in 1981. It has appeared in many films and TV series. A cover was made for the musical show ‘Glee’ which has made it very popular. The children are joined by Steve Augeri, lead singer of the  band. What does he say about singing at the end of the video? Do you agree?

Appraise - listen to the original version of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1k8craCGpgs

Here are some questions about ‘Don’t Stop Believin’’

  • Do you like the song? Why, Why not?
  • What instruments can you hear?
  • What is the style of the music?
  • How is the song put together? Choose from these parts of a song: chorus, pre-chorus, instrumental, introduction, verse.

HINT: A pre-chorus is a part of song that comes between a verse and the chorus. It’s often used if the verse and chorus are quite different from each other. Answer below.

introduction, verse 1, instrumental 1, verse 2, pre-chorus 1, verse 3, pre-chorus 2, instrumental 2, chorus

This song is unusual as the chorus comes at the at end of the song.
