Y3 compare the modern and ancient Olympic Games

Date: 25th Feb 2019 @ 1:09pm

As part of our topic  ‘What did the Ancient Greeks do for us?' Year 3 enjoyed travelling back in time to participate in the Ancient Greek Olympics. In our house teams we represented an Ancient Greek state- Don became the Spartans, Rivelin were the mighty Athenians, Porter the Corinthians and Sheaf were from Ithica. We looked at some Ancient Greek vases and identified some of the events. We then went outside in the gorgeous sunshine and had a go at recreating some of the events. We tried the shot putt, throwing the javelin, relays and a 7 minute run!

This afternoon we tried to identify similarities and differences between given periods in history. We used a Venn diagram to sort similarities and differences between the Modern Olympic Games and the Ancient Greek Games.  ( We are very grateful that females can now participate and that the athletes now wear clothes!)
